"Listening to the trio Slagr is like entering a dream of a deep forest. Anne Hytta, Amund Sjølie Sveen and Katrine Schiøtt manage to spell images inside our minds as far from the big city as ever possible to come."

We're releasing our new album DIRR, our fifth album, and the first album on the fantastic Norwegian label Hubro Music. And our first album with Katrine Schiøtt as cellist! The album was recorded last spring in Sofienberg church in Oslo with Andreas Mjøs (Jaga Jazzist) as sound engineer. The album contains new music for our quite unique line-up with hardanger fiddle, cello and vibraphone / harmonic glasses, written by Anne Hytta in cooperation with Katrine Schiøtt and Amund Sjølie Sveen. We hope you'll enjoy listening to DIRR.
We have received a nice review of performance MELTING on scenekunst.no, written by Venke Marie Sortland. She writes (our translation):
«MELTING has the form of an information-heavy, but visually appealing power-point presentation on global warming, which in several places slips into musical interruptions where the Norwegian Grammy Award-winning group Slagr, which Sveen is a part of, lures us into beautiful but gloomy landscapes. With MELTING, Sveen conducts an environmental accounting of the performance he is about to present for us - asking if it would maybe be better if we all went go out in the woods (our local woods) to play fiddle, an activity that produces a minimal carbon footprint. Even though the message might be discouraging, Sveen keeps the spirits up through a charming and humorous tone, granting the audience space to contemplate the message during the musical parts, enhanced by the slow rotation of the large mobile canvas. The simple and gradual development of the moving canvas makes me think of satellites floating through space - a beautiful dance centered around the machine, rather than the human body.» Her full review of the Theatre Festival in Fjaler can be found here (only in Norwegian): http://www.scenekunst.no/sak/scenekunst-som-beredskap/ Last week we had the premiere of MELTING at BIT Teatergarasjen in Bergen. MELTING is a performance lecture by Amund Sjølie Sveen with music by Slagr and scenography by Lawrence Malstaf about the climate crisis, the last 30 years of aggressive, deregulated finance capitalism, and our possible common future.
We're very proud of being part of this performance, and we are really looking forward to more performances in the autumn. Stay tuned for dates and venues! MELTING is a performance lecture by and with Amund Sjølie Sveen, the music is by and with Slagr. It will premiere at BIT Teatergarasjen in Bergen Friday 22nd of April. You may read more about the lecture here:
The past week Slagr has been preparing for the premiere of MELTING, a performance about ecology, democracy, economy. And music. We are very much looking forward to performing the shows in Bergen April 22nd and 23rd!
