Excerpts from reviews of Songs by Geirr Tveitt:
Aftenposten (6/6):
"They have created a very distinctive, almost magical sound. A
meditative sound world, a kind of musical fantasy landscape conjured up
by hardanger fiddle, cello, vibraphone and tuned glasses, where
different sounds are flowing freely in ever changing colors.
Exquisitely they create a musical bridge bridge between their own sound
and the great tunes by Norwegian composer Geirr Tveitt (1908-1981)."
Svein Andersen
Dagsavisen:
"(...)Throughout, there is a poetic weight in the
material, that Slagr fully bring out without loosing Tveitt's light
fantasy. It is an outstanding accomplishment, perfectly thought and
performed."
Mode Steinkjer
Varden (6/6):
"It is traditional, and it is contemporary.
It is experimental, and it is pure and down to earth. It is calm, and
it is a little bit disturbing. Just enough to tickle your senses (...)
In their "simple" way, Slagr touches you deeper than you first notice.
Lovely."

Guido Diesing, Jazzthetik 1/2 2011
«In the pieces of ambient-folk trio Slagr,
only a faint echo remains of the traditional music of their native
Norway. Their meditative soundscapes, modern and archaic at the same
time, occasionally remind one of Arvo Pärt. The interplay between
Anne Hytta's Hardanger fiddle, Sigrun Eng's cello and Amund
Sjølie Sveen's vibraphone create a sound brimming with
harmonics, yet never narcissistically revelling in beauty.»
FOCUS online Jan. 2011
«A snow covered landscape. Solitude,
vastness. Those looking for a soundtrack to match this scenery should
turn towards Slagr. The pieces on „Straum, Stille“ are
developing slowly and the band are wandering through them as if in a
trance. (…) An ideal soundtrack for solitary hikes through the
snow or for euphoric moments on top of a mountain.»

“Meditative force
Slagr has created a meditative world of sound full of quiet inner peace
and outer contrasts. Being both innovative, modern and at the same time
aware of the aesthetics of traditional music, is something few
musicians manage to unite. Therefore it is such a pleasure to hear
somebody succeeding with this combination. They create an almost
hypnotic atmosphere (...) Describing this music is not easy, but it has
a strange, charitable strength. The music can be explored as colourful,
a shimmering flicker of contrasts. This can be called meditative music,
but the music also possesses a great portion of resistance that makes
it even more interesting to approach.”

"Solid,

(...) "
(Telemarksavisa, 2. august 2004)
"Da bestillingsverket
"Frå Andalucia
til Telemark - langs refrengets reiserute" tonet ut, sto lufta i
Gullbring stille. Så tordnet applausen løs over
Anne Hytta
og hennes musikere. (...)
Anne Hytta leverte et verk og en prestasjon som f?rer henne rett i
sentrum av dagens norske musikkliv -uansett sjanger eller
katalogisering. "Fra Andalucia til Telemark" var rett og slett
strålende."
